Title: The Blessed Life – Be Attitudes
Matthew 5:1-4
Matthew 5:1- 4 New International Version (NIV)
5 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.He said:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted
Most people feel that they are blessed because they have money, they lack for nothing, they have a good job, and a good family.
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
When Jesus talked about being blessed he did not mean material things. When Jesus talked about the “poor in spirit” It means these people who need righteousness of God and to accept that they are poor are in spirit and they need the righteousness of God They claim that they are spiritually bankrupt and they need mercy in their lives.
In Luke 18:9-14: The Bible talked about the Pharisee and the tax collector.
Some of us feel confident in our own righteousness and looks down on everyone else, just like the Pharisee. Nobody can say claim that they are good enough because we are not good enough. We are only good enough because God made us good enough. The tax collector recognized that he is not good enough and that he needs mercy and he’s not worthy, and he was justified before God. For Jesus said all those who exalt themselves will be humbled.
Jesus said in 2 Cor 8: 9 For you the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
For they will be comforted
Mourning means you lost someone or something important. People at times go to doctors and medications to help with the symptoms of depression. When Adam and Eve were driven out of the Garden of Eden and they mourned because they felt the loss of the love of God. Sometimes we mourn because of sins in our lives and we feel the loss of the presence of God. Remember that God is our Comforter and Our Hope. Allow Him to give us comfort in our deepest time of need.
